Timmy Allen’s offensive outburst last week earned the Utah sophomore some recognition from the Pac-12.
The Utes’ leading scorer was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 25.5 points on 58.3% shooting last week in a pair of wins. Allen scored 27 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists in a come-from-behind overtime win over BYU on Wednesday, then tallied 24 points in just 26 minutes in a rout of Central Arkansas on Saturday. Allen also had eight rebounds and five assists in that one.
“He’s doing a nice job leading us. I thought he did a nice job sharing the ball at times,” Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak said postgame Saturday. “He got his teammates involved and he’s always going to give a great effort from a defensive point of view.”
Through nine games Allen is averaging 20.8 points and 7.4 rebounds for the 7-2 Utes, who return to action Saturday against Weber State as part of the Beehive Classic at Vivint Smart Home Arena (2 p.m., Pac-12 Networks).
Beyond Saturday, Utah still has two high-profile non-conference games remaining. It faces eighth-ranked Kentucky on Dec. 18 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and San Diego State on Dec. 21 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The Aztecs, 10-0 with wins over BYU, Creighton, and Iowa on their resume, moved into the AP Poll for the first time this season Monday at No. 25.
