BYU football just lost a four-star defensive lineman to an ACL injury

The freshman was competing for time in his first spring in college

(Jaren Wilkey | BYU) Head football coach Kalani Sitake leads the first day of spring practice in Provo, Monday, Feb. 28, 2022.

BYU defensive lineman Logan Fano tore his ACL in practice last week and will not be ready for start of the 2022 season.

The freshman underwent an MRI last Tuesday and will undergo surgery. The standard recovery time for an ACL injury is nine months, according to a BYU spokesperson.

Fano is coming off of his mission and in his first spring practice of his college career. Defensive coordinator Ilaisa Tuiaki said the Utah native was contending for playing time and could have been a key piece of rotation.

“He is a lot further ahead for a guy that is new to college,” Tuiaki said last week. “Obviously he is a return missionary and has a little bit more age to him. But he is a twitchy kid and you can tell football is his profession.”

Fano was rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports. He had offers from Michigan, Oklahoma and Wisconsin out of high school.

As a senior, he had 115 tackles, 20.5 sacks and two interceptions.
