BYU flips two more top Utah recruits amid Bronco Mendenhall’s departure from Virginia

Dominique and Marcus McKenzie of Pine View High announced their move on Instagram

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Brigham Young Cougar fans shake the school flag as they cheer on the Cougars against the Arizona State Sun Devils at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021.

BYU football picked up two more recruits who were previously slated to play at the University of Virginia.

Twin brothers Dominque and Marcus McKenzie announced the move on their Instagram accounts Monday morning. They played their high school ball for Pine View.

The McKenzie brothers — Dominique, the wide receiver, and Marcus, the cornerback — are the second and third players from Utah who switched from Virginia to BYU. The other is Lone Peak’s Joe Brown, who announced his move on Twitter over the weekend.

The departure of Bronco Mendenhall as coach of the Cavaliers is likely at play for the McKenzie brothers switching schools, just as it was for Brown. It’s common for recruits to reopen their commitments to a university after a significant coaching change.
