BYU women’s basketball reaches highest AP ranking in history; men drop 12 spots
The women’s team is ranked No. 16, while the men are No. 24.

The BYU women’s basketball team has enjoyed an undefeated season through its first eight games, most recently beating rival Utah over the weekend. That game gave the Cougars a big bump in the national rankings.
The Cougars came in at No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25, the team’s highest ranking in the history of the program. The team sat at No. 21 all of last week.
The win over Utah gave BYU its fourth win over a Power 5 program this year. The other three were over Arizona State, Florida State and West Virginia.
The women’s team’s previous high ranking was No. 18 in February 2006. It held that spot for two weeks.
Meanwhile, the men’s team dropped considerably in the rankings after splitting games against Utah Valley and Missouri State. The team is ranked No. 24 this week, while last week it was No. 12.
