BYU adds Western Kentucky to its football schedule; Cougars unofficially now have an 8-game slate

Slowly but surely, BYU is continuing to cobble together a fall football schedule.

The latest scheduling addition out of Provo has the Cougars hosting Western Kentucky on Oct. 31 at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

“We are grateful that Western Kentucky was able to quickly put together a game that will enable our teams to play football,” BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a statement. “We are looking forward to the matchup and hosting the Hilltoppers at LaVell Edwards Stadium.”

BYU, one of four FBS independents still planning to play in 2020, officially has five games scheduled, at Navy (Sept. 7), at Army (Sept. 19), vs. Troy (Sept. 26), at Houston (Oct. 16), and vs. North Alabama (Nov. 21). Reported-but-unconfirmed games vs. UTSA (Oct. 10), Texas State (potentially Oct. 3) and now Western Kentucky would push the schedule to eight games, including six at home.

As an FBS independent, BYU is not bound by conference mandates, and could conceivably add up to four more games to get to a full 12-game slate.
