A high school football game scheduled for Friday has been canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests.

Provo High School announced on Instagram that both the varsity and junior varsity games against Timpview were canceled after “three classes of students” and “several coaches” had to quarantine. The announcement did not specify further as to whether those that tested positive are only on the football teams or elsewhere in the student body.

Provo’s game against Timpview adds to a growing list of fall high school sports that have been impacted by someone testing positive for the coronavirus. Two weeks ago, the Cottonwood High girls’ soccer team had to quarantine after a positive test, and Weber and Bingham canceled their opening football game.

Several programs across the state had been forced to quarantine over the summer due to positive tests, but the Utah High School Activities Association still decided to go ahead with the fall schedule as planned, calling for patience and flexibility.
