(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) New York Red Bulls forward Brian White (42) collides with Real Salt Lake defender Nedum Onuoha (14) as they go for the ball, in MLS acton between Real Salt Lake and the New York Red Bulls at Rio Tinto Stadium, Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Major League Soccer and the National Women’s Soccer League won’t hold sessions for longer than originally planned.
Both North American professional soccer leagues announced Sunday that they are extending training moratoriums that were set to end at the end of this weekend. Both leagues were thought to resume full training Monday.
Instead, MLS extended its moratorium through Friday, March 20. The NWSL, meanwhile, extended its moratorium through Sunday, March 22.
The moratoriums were measures implemented in furtherance of mitigating the spread of the novel coronavirus that caused COVID-19. MLS has already suspended its season for 30 days, and the NWSL canceled its preseason competitions.
