Letter: The Affordable Care Act is still alive — and enrollment begins Nov. 1

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, two independent experts said that the Trump administration appears to be taking aim at provisions of the Affordable Care Act that protect people in employer plans, not just those consumers who buy a policy directly from an insurer. The new position was outlined a week earlier in a legal brief the Justice Department filed in a Texas case challenging the health law.
Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act begins Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 15. You can access information regarding this program through https://www.healthcare.gov to see if you qualify.
I have talked to many people who believe that this program was repealed. It has not been repealed. To date, I have not seen nor heard of any alerts from the federal or state governments through the media to provide citizens with this information.
Perhaps if the state and federal governments would make the path to enrollment more apparent for those who would benefit, there would be fewer citizens in need of Medicaid expansion (Proposition 3) and our tax dollars could be put to better use serving those truly in need.
