A law professor at Brigham Young University will clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch in 2021.

Stephanie Barclay, an associate professor of law, joined the faculty at BYU’s law school in 2018, according to a biography published by the campus, which also announced her selection. She studies First Amendment law, particularly freedom of religion.

Barclay, 31, is listed as a contributor at The Federalist Society, a group of attorneys who have pushed to appoint more conservative judges to the courts. Her biography says she has drafted multiple Supreme Court briefs, including in defense of a Muslim inmate who wanted to wear a religious beard.

Gorsuch, a Denver native, joined the Supreme Court in 2017. Each justice can select four clerks a year.

U.S. Sen. Mike Lee clerked for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.
