A duck hunter fired in the direction of a police officer. Then the cop was charged with a crime in a case that has reached Utah’s Supreme Court.

Bess was a Unified Police Department officer who was convicted of a misdemeanor count of brandishing a firearm after investigating why a duck hunter had fired in his direction. Bess’ lawyers argued before the Utah Supreme Court that he had a presumption of innocence because he was a police officer.
