A recent increase in hospitalizations of babies is “statistically significant,” said Dr. Andrew Pavia, a pediatric infectious diseases specialist at the hospital. But the total number of hospitalizations of infants hasn’t risen noticeably in his practice the way they have for kids ages 1 to 5, he said.
