Utah County Sheriff’s Department identifies teenager who apparently drowned at Spring Lake

The 19-year-old was swimming with a friend when he began to struggle.

(Utah County Sheriff) Utah County Sheriff Search and Rescue searches for a missing man who went under the surface of Spring Lake on the evening of Friday, June 25, 2021.

The body of 19-year-old Weston Lane Peterson was found in Spring Lake in Utah County on Friday night by search and rescue.

Peterson was swimming with a female friend at the lake when they both began to struggle on Friday evening, according to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office. A bystander on shore swam out but could not help both of them back. When the bystander took the friend back to shore, Peterson slipped beneath the surface.

Search and rescue located his body close to 11 p.m. Friday.

“The Sheriff’s Office wishes to extend our deepest condolences to Weston’s family at his loss,” reads the news release.
