Utah County’s chief deputy clerk/auditor was promoted to clerk/auditor over the weekend.
Josh Daniels won a special election for the position on Saturday with 63% of the votes from the Utah County Republican Party central committee. He received 239 votes, while the second place candidate, Wendy Hart, received about half as many votes, 122.
The committee held the special election since the county’s outgoing clerk/auditor, Amelia Powers Gardner, was elected Utah County commissioner in April.
Daniels was previously policy director at Libertas Institute Utah, a libertarian-leaning think tank. He says on his campaign page that he will focus on transparency, operating efficiently to keep costs low, and election security.
