Officers responded to a welfare check around 11 p.m. on Saturday night, and found both dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Two adults in their 30s, one man and one woman, were found deceased in a South Salt Lake home late Saturday night.

The South Salt Lake Police Department identified the two people Monday as Lauren Hoover, 34, of Murray, and Philip Gorst, 38, of South Salt Lake.

South Salt Lake police officers responded to a welfare check around 11 p.m. Saturday on the 2800 block of Eugene Lane after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots.

Upon entering the home, the officers found two adults dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The investigation is ongoing and in its early stages, but police said there are no documented cases of domestic violence between the two people. Police are investigating the case as a murder-suicide, according to a Monday news release, though they said they don’t know a motive yet.
