Police arrest alleged serial Salt Lake Valley bank robber

The Unified Police Department has arrested a man suspected of half a dozen bank robberies in Salt Lake County over the past six weeks.

The 53-year-old man allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank at 1720 S. Redwood Road on Oct. 2; the Cyprus Credit Union at 7160 S. Union Park Ave. on Oct. 16; the University Federal Credit Union at 3088 S. Richmond St. on Oct. 28; the Chase Bank at 6275 S. Highland Drive on Oct. 29; the University of Utah Credit Union at 7220 S. Highland Drive on Nov. 5; and the Chase Bank at 6255 S. State St, on Nov. 7.

UPD, working with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, obtained information about the suspect’s identity and located him at a motel at 2455 S. State St. Officers served a search warrant at the motel and arrested the suspect without incident.

Cash and firearms were seized from the room.

The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail awaiting charges. The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name suspects who have not been formally charged.
