An employee at the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles office in South Salt Lake has tested positive for COVID-19, so the state is closing the office until further notice.
The DMV office at 2880 S. 380 West in South Salt Lake is being cleaned and sterilized, according to a release issued Monday by the Utah State Tax Commission, the DMV’s parent agency. Employees in the office also must be tested for COVID-19 before the office can reopen.
“This is frustrating for customers and employees, but unavoidable given the situation,” Monte Roberts, the DMV’s director, said in a statement. Customer appointments at the South Salt Lake office are canceled, and those people are urged to reschedule at other DMV locations.
The DMV will not process new title and registration transactions at any drive-thru office, but only at offices by appointment. Roberts said such transactions take longer to process and create longer wait times at the drive-thru offices.
Appointments can be made at the department’s website, dmv.utah.gov.
