Salt Lake Police searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian, then drove away

Salt Lake City Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck and critically injured a pedestrian on Tuesday night.

Police were called to the scene, between 700 and 800 South on State Street, about 11 p.m. The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to the University of Utah Hospital in critical condition.

The victim was not in a crosswalk, police said. The car, which is believed to have been speeding, struck him and continued north on State Street.

According to police, witnesses said the car was a dark-colored, possibly black, Dodge Charger or Challenger. Police said the car most likely has significant damage to its front end.

Anyone with information about the car that struck the man is asked to call Salt Lake City Police at 801-799-3000.
