One man shot to death, another stabbed to death at Utah Halloween party

Two men died at a Halloween party near Roosevelt in what investigators are calling a double homicide.

Duchesne County sheriff’s deputies were called to the house near 1250 W. 850 North about 12:15 a.m. Friday and found two bodies, according to a news statement from the sheriff’s office.

Duchesne County Sheriff Travis Tucker identified the victims as John Reed Jr., 22, who was stabbed; and Tyrell Sowsonicut, 23, who was shot. He did not identify any suspects and declined to talk about possible motives, but did say investigators believe alcohol was involved.

“Individuals who were still at the house when deputies arrived are being interviewed,” read a news statement. “Detectives are working to locate an unknown number of people who left the house before deputies arrived.”

Investigators did not anticipate further threat to the public. They asked anyone who was at the party or who has information about the deaths to call the sheriff’s office at 435-738-2424.

The Roosevelt Police Department, Bureau of Indian Affairs police, and the Duchesne County Attorney’s Office also were involved in the investigation.
