A 23-year-old man visiting from Mexico was killed Sunday when he was hit by falling debris at Bridal Veil Falls.

The man, whose name has not been released, was hit by what is believed to be a falling log, according to the Utah County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said that it did not appear that there were any other hikers in the area who dislodged the debris.

The man was hiking in the area, near the mouth of Provo Canyon along State Road 189, with family members when the accident occurred. Members of his family attempted to revive him, but the man died at the scene.
