Man dies while he’s being booked into the Weber County Jail

Police are investigating after a man died while was being booked into the Weber County Jail on Wednesday.

According to Lt. Joshua Marigoni of the Weber County Sheriff's Office, Eric Gavin, 39, “experienced a medical episode in our booking area.” He was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

“Jail custody staff, jail medical staff and emergency medical staff worked together in life-saving efforts,” Marigoni wrote in a news release.

Gavin was being booked into jail for a parole violation. Additional details will be released “at the conclusion of the investigation,” Marigoni said. “The sheriff’s office offers condolences to the family in this difficult time.
