Jennie Taylor and her family flipped the switch lighting up the ZooLights at Hogle Zoo, the state’s largest animated light display, Friday night.

Zoogoers braved a heavy snowstorm as they strolled around the zoo, checking out the lights, which included 10 animal lanterns.

Taylor, whose husband, Maj. Brent Taylor, was killed in action in Afghanistan last month, was treated to a backstage tour of the zoo by Hogle Zoo Director Steve Burns. The family was able to to feed the giraffes and see the zebras and ostriches up close.

ZooLights will run until Dec. 31 at the zoo, 2600 Sunnyside Ave., Salt Lake City.
