Orem police identify 17-year-old shot and killed by officers when he reportedly came at them with a knife

Orem Police have identified the 17-year-old who was shot and killed by officers after he reportedly came after them with a knife in his hands.

Jacob E. Albrethsen died Friday after police were called to his home at 81 N. Paradise Drive to investigate a “family problem,” police said. One officer tried to tase the teenager, but that failed to stop him and both officers opened fire.

Albrethsen was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Neither officer was injured.

The investigation into the shooting continues.

Albrethsen was a student at Orem High School, where grief counselors will be available to students on Monday.
