Giving in to Temptations

The 2019 Broadway musical “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations” tells the story of the great Motown group — with a roster of the group’s greatest hits, such as “My Girl,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Get Ready,” “Ball of Confusion,” “Just My Imagination,” “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” and others. The touring production arrives this week at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City — for a run starting Tuesday and running through Sunday, Jan. 15. Comedy at Kingsbury

For Friday the 13th, Kingsbury Hall (on the University of Utah campus) is playing host to stand-up comedian Anjelah Johnson-Reyes. Known for her funny YouTube videos and a stint on MadTV, Johnson-Reyes is on her “Who Do You Think I Am?” tour. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at artstickets.utah.edu.

Jan. 14

An operatic military brat

Utah Opera launches its new production, of Donizetti’s “The Daughter of the Regiment,” on Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at the Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. The comic opera centers on Marie (sung by soprano Madison Leonard), an orphan girl raised by a contingent of French soldiers, who are incensed when she falls for Tonio (sung by tenor Jack Swanson), who’s from the other side of enemy lines. The opera is sung in French, with English dialogue, and English supertitles. The production repeats on Jan. 16, 18, 20 and 22. For tickets, go to ArtTix.org.
