The touring production arrives this week at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City — for a run starting Tuesday and running through Sunday, Jan. 15. Tickets are available through ArtTix.org.

An operatic military brat

Utah Opera launches its new production, of Donizetti’s “The Daughter of the Regiment,” on Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at the Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. The comic opera centers on Marie (sung by soprano Madison Leonard), an orphan girl raised by a contingent of French soldiers, who are incensed when she falls for Tonio (sung by tenor Jack Swanson), who’s from the other side of enemy lines. The opera is sung in French, with English dialogue, and English supertitles. The production repeats on Jan. 16, 18, 20 and 22. For tickets, go to ArtTix.org.
