A gala to help cancer patients

“The Big Gig” is a fundraiser put on by the American Cancer Society, to raise money for Hope Lodge, which has since October 2015 provided lodging for free to cancer patients traveling to Salt Lake City for treatment. The event is set for Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Union Event Center, 235 N. 500 West, Salt Lake City, with doors opening at 8 p.m. The headliner this year is singer-songwriter Ben Rector. The market in winter

It’s only been a few weeks since the Downtown Farmers Market closed up for the season at Pioneer Park — and now the winter version is starting up, Saturdays from Nov. 12 through April 15 (skipping Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve), at the north end of The Gateway, near the Olympic Legacy Fountain. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and offers dozens of food vendors — selling fresh produce, meats and prepared foods.

Glam rock, Italian style

Only a few acts have achieved true stardom after winning the campy and over-the-top Eurovision Song Contest — but those include Abba, Celine Dion and Katrina & the Waves. The Italian glam-rock outfit Måneskin won Eurovision in 2021, with their song “Zitti e buoni” (which translates to “Shut Up and Behave”), and have been on a hot streak since. They have toured the world, appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” and are now touring the U.S. to support their second album, “Rush!” The tour arrives in Salt Lake City on Saturday, Nov. 12, at The Complex, 536 W. 100 South, Salt Lake City.
