Fireworks and flames engulfed the woodwork man on Saturday night during the annual Burning Man celebration in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. An estimated 80,000 people traveled from all over the world to participate in the community of art and “radical self-expression,” making it one of the 10 largest cities in Nevada for one week.

According to the website, Burning Man is based on 10 principles: radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
