As BYU keeps winning, the Cougars keep moving up the rankings.
Following the most recent dominating 45-14 victory over La. Tech, BYU (3-0) moved seven spots up on the Associated Press Top 25 to a No. 15 ranking — the highest ranking by the Cougars since 2009.
While BYU has won all three of its games handily, the large jump was made even more possible due to a large amount of upsets over the weekend. Auburn, Texas, UCF, Texas A&M, Miss St., Oklahoma, Pitt and Memphis — all previously in the AP Top 25 — lost on Saturday.
As a result, five of those teams were bumped off and allowed for new teams to enter the rankings and others to make bigger moves.
Six programs that have yet to play during this pandemic-ridden season still made the latest rankings: No. 6 Ohio State, No. 9 Penn State, No. 12 Oregon, No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 20 Michigan and No. 25 Minnesota.
Utah received 30 votes.
Through three games, BYU has outscored opponents 148-24. The Cougars next host UTSA on Oct. 10 in LaVell Edwards Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
