Spencer Johnson announced his commitment to BYU Friday morning, making the 6-foot-5 redshirt sophomore the first commit of the Cougars’ 2020 recruiting class.
Johnson started his collegiate career at Weber State, which he signed to before his church mission. After half of his freshman season in Ogden, Johnson transferred to Utah Valley, where he redshirted. Last summer, Johnson transferred to Salt Lake Community College.
When he comes to BYU in 2020, Johnson will still have three years left of eligibility.
Johnson was a 2-star recruit out of high school in 2016, where he averages 19.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game his senior season at American Fork.
Norma Gonzalez, a Texas native, joined The Tribune by way of Arizona. A 2014 graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American, Norma has reported on sports since high school. Some of her former live include being a cake decorator, an educator and Olive Garden server. The unlimited soup, salad and breadsticks still occasionally haunt her dreams.
