Utahns Ted Ligety, 36, Steve Nyman, 38, are now the U.S. Ski Team’s elder statesmen

Ted Ligety and Steven Nyman will serve as veteran voices for a squad of Olympic hopefuls after being named to the U.S. Alpine Ski Team on Wednesday.

Ligety, of Park City, has competed in four Olympic Games (2006, ’10, ’14, ’18) and won two gold medals. Nyman, of Sundance, has skied in three Olympics (2006, ’10, ’14).

In addition to having the most Olympic experience, the former Park City Ski and Snowboard Team proteges are now the team elders. Nyman is 38 while Ligety will turn 36 this year. The next oldest skier on the team, two-time Olympian Travis Ganong of California will turn 32 this year.

Other members of the A squad include Bryce Bennett of California, Tommy Ford and Laurenne Ross of Oregon, Ryan Cochran-Siegle of Vermont, Breezy Johnson of Idaho and Colorado’s Mikaela Shiffrin.

As they face a crucial year in terms of qualifying for Beijing 2022, members of the national team, they will receive financial support from U.S. Ski & Snowboard and access to its Center of Excellence in Park City. Other athletic benefits include elite coaching, access to sport science, sports medicine and high-performance staff as well as education opportunities.

Also from Utah, Sam DuPratt of Park City and Jared Goldberg of Holladay were named to the B team. Lauren Macuga of Park City and Isabella Wright of Salt Lake City became members of the development team.
