How rich Latter-day Saints use their own nonprofits to pay tithing and other church contributions

The arrangement has delivered tens of millions of dollars to the church while helping the members avoid paying capital gains and other taxes. In many cases, records show, the charities' primary or sole function is to pay the LDS Church.
