Tribune editorial: Utah Supreme Court gives the people back their right to govern themselves. If they can keep it.

The people of Utah now need to take this encouragement to stand up for their rights and demand that their elected officials do right by them and by their Constitution.

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Supporters for both sides packed the Utah Supreme Court during the partisan gerrymandering case regarding Utah’s congressional districts, July 11, 2023. The plaintiffs, including include The League of Women Voters, Mormon Women for Ethical Government and Utah residents argued that the Utah Legislature intentionally drew congressional districts to split Salt Lake County into four parts in order to dilute the vote of the most liberal part of the state. Attorneys for the Legislature and the Attorney General’s office argued that there is a logical reason to split the county to garner an urban-rural mix.
