(Image courtesy of Department of Natural Resources) The former Emery Deep coal mine, now known as Bronco Utah, was recently penalized by the Interior Department after an inspector general's report concluded Bronco Utah Operations had improperly extracted 30,000 tons of federal coal from an unleashed tract in Emery County. To resolve the matter, the company paid a penalty that amounted to less than $3 per ton of misappropriated coal.
