Glen Canyon Dam, towering 583 feet above the original river channel, has had its electrical generating output slashed as levels continue to drop at Lake Powell. A proposed pipeline that would move water to St. George, thus reducing the dam's power generation even more. Because the pipeline would generate power through a series of hydroelectric stations, it will require permits from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. To the disappointment of state leaders, however, the agency on Thursday, Sept. 20 ruled it cannot assume jurisdiction over the entire project, but just over the hydro components.
