University of Utah shuts down LGBTQ youth health clinic citing lawmakers’ crackdown on gender-affirming care

The U.’s health system said the decision was “a natural outgrowth” of the 2023 Utah law banning gender-affirming care for transgender minors.

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Primary Children’s Hospital had been home to the University of Utah's Gender Management & Support Clinic, which provided care to LGBTQ youth. The University closed the clinic in early May 2025, a result of the Utah Legislature's 2023 ban on doctors providing gender-affirming care to transgender minors.
