The body of a man who apparently drowned while kayaking in a private pond in Holladay was recovered Monday night.
According to Unified Police, two construction workers were given access to the pond next to their work site at 2626 E. Walker Lane. The men took kayaks out on the pond, which is about 8 feet deep, and one of the kayaks capsized. Melvin Danilo Castro, 35, of Kearns — who was not wearing a life jacket — went under the water and did not resurface.
The man’s body was recovered about 10:20 p.m. by a search and rescue team.
