A hit-and-run and a shooting brought traffic on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 to a stop near 2100 North in Lehi on Monday morning.
According to a spokesman for the Utah Highway Patrol, there was a road rage incident at about 7:30 a.m. involving the driver of a black pickup truck and the driver of a white pickup truck. After what may have been a hit-and-run, the driver of the black truck (the only person in that vehicle) pursued and fired at the white truck and the five people inside it. The driver of the white truck was critically injured, although he’s in stable condition after surgery this morning. One of his passengers suffered wounds that are not life threatening.
The driver of the black truck is in police custody. Neither his name nor the names of the other driver or the wounded passenger have been released by police.
All the southbound lanes were closed on I-15 while state troopers began their investigation. Multiple lanes were reopened about 9:30 a.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation, and “minor delays” continued through mid-morning.
