(Photo courtesy of Matt Pacenza) A Utah license plate that reads "DEPORTM" is under review by the Utah Tax Commission, which oversees the state Division of Motor Vehicles. The plate was approved in 2015, despite rules forbidding plates that may offend "good taste and decency" by showing “contempt, ridicule or superiority of a race, religion, deity, ethnic heritage or political affiliation.” The plate came to light when complaints surfaced this week on social media.
Erin is a reporter who has previously been an outdoor columnist and worked the crime beat. She was the lead reporter on The Tribune's Pulitzer-winning coverage of campus sexual assault. She has worked at newspapers in Michigan and Iowa and taught English for two years at teacher-training colleges in China.
Bethany began covering state government at The Tribune right in time for the 2018 election. She's a proud Maryland Terrapin and worked at newspapers in the D.C. area and in Orlando, Florida, before coming to Utah. Her aspiration is to one day keep an orchid alive for more than a month.
