Rio Grande Depot’s neon sign to be replaced after six decades atop the Salt Lake City landmark

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The sign atop the Rio Grande train depot will be removed in August, and replaced with a new sign that will face both east and west. The old neon sign was installed in the late 1950s, and officials for the Utah Department of Heritage & Arts headquartered in the depot say replacement parts are hard to come by and sign contractors refuse to use the unsafe catwalks to access it.
