Pineview Reservoir and Powder Mountain resort reopened Friday after a wildfire forced officials to close access to recreators in both areas on Thursday.
Powder Mountain Ski Resort remained under precautionary evacuation orders until Friday evening, while the 780-acre Avon Fire burned north of Liberty and Eden in Weber County, fire officials said. The reservoir, which fire crews had been scooping water from to fight the wildfire, reopened earlier Friday.
Crews were briefly diverted Friday afternoon to suppress a small fire about a mile north of Utaba Reservoir, but they contained the blaze quickly and returned to the Avon Fire.
Firefighters were digging barriers and dropping water on the fire Friday, trying to keep the fire north and west of Broadmouth Canyon, east of Avon Divide Road, and south of Public Grove, an area to the west of Powder Mountain.
The fire didn’t grow throughout Friday and was 10 percent contained.
