Trans-Siberian Orchestra, without a 2020 tour, will perform ‘Christmas Eve’ online on Dec. 18

(Photo courtesy of Bob Carey) The Trans-Siberian Orchestra will perform "Christmas Eve and Other Stories" in a livestreamed concert on Dec. 18, 2020, instead of a tour, because of concerns over the coronavirus.

Utah fans of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra won’t get to see their favorite holiday-themed music-and-lasers extravaganza in the Vivint Smart Home Arena this year — but they can simulate the experience at home a week before Christmas.

The progressive rock group announced Thursday it will present its first-ever livestream show, “Christmas Eve and Other Stories Live in Concert,” on Friday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. Mountain time. The online performance will be in place of TSO’s annual tour, which the group canceled in August because of concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.

The special will bring together TSO’s two touring groups, the East and West bands, for the first time since the two started touring separately in 2000. The show will feature an all-new staging of TSO’s album “Christmas Eve and Other Stories.”

Tickets, at $30, went on sale Thursday at the group’s website, trans-siberian.com. For those who can’t see it live, TSO will make the show available to stream on demand through midnight on Sunday, Dec. 20. Merchandise is also available for purchase on the website.
