1. Sports Nutrition Symposium

Theme: "Nutritional Approach for Optimal Health and Performance Enhancement”

This Symposium will touch on the diversity of nutritional interventions for health and performance enhancement in sports and exercise. The symposium will begin by a presentation by Prof. Herm on the importance of nutrition for sports performance enhancement during growth and development. This will be followed by presentation on sports specific nutrition for optimal health and performance in general by Dr. Ramana. Prof Ohmori will then present the role of branched chain amino acid and taurine supplementation as useful nutritional strategy for attenuating exercise-induced DOMS and muscle damage following high-intensity eccentric exercise. The symposium will end by a presentation on the usefulness of coconut water as a beverage for health and exercise by Prof. Singh.

2. Yoga Science Symposium

Theme: Yogic intervention for Excelling Performance

The symposium will cover the role of Yoga with respect to it’s scientific contribution for wider application of maintaining better health as well as adaptation in adverse environmental conditions. Dr. US Ray will speak about the beneficial potentialities of Yoga through a series of scientific studies specifically in the area of physical performance improvement mostly in moderate intensities of exercise. Dr. U Panjwani will speak about sleep deprivation and roll of cognitive functions on vigilance and attention during sustained wakefulness and how meditation training reduced the cognitive decline during sleep deprivation through various standard neuropsychological tests. Dr. B Sinha will speak about the role of various components of Yogic practice for improving physiological functions and how it could be use as an effective scientific tool for all round health benefit. Dr. M Saha will speak about the current scientific research studies on standardization and wide application of yoga for maintaining optimum physical fitness in challenging and adverse extreme climatic conditions.
