Inter-disciplinary Applied Approach to Health and Performance Enhancement through Sports Science
Prof. Dr. Ming-Kai Chin
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Organizing Committee for their diligent and excellent work in organizing the 7th Asia Pacific Conference on Exercise and Sports Science (APCESS 2015) scheduled for Oct 14-16, 2015, at the Manav Rachna International University in New Delhi, India. As one of the four Founders, Past President, and currently serving on the Executive Board, it is with a great sense of pride and personal fulfillment that I witness the unfolding continuance and expansion of the Asian Council of Exercise and Sports Science (ACESS).
Prof. G L Khanna, in tandem with the Organizing Committee, has identified the APCESS 2015 conference theme: “Interdisciplinary Applied Approach to Health and Performance Enhancement through Sports Science”. Particular emphasis will highlight the interdisciplinary co-operation between exercise science, sports, health and the emergent and critical need to re-position our shared profession in physical activity, coach education and sports science. Our repositioned professional role is guided by the shared responsibility we morally must address having been handed the baton by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his landmark and razor-sharp 2011 presentation to the United Nations. Ban’s remarks reflected only the second time in the history of the UN that health related issues represented the keynote topic of discussion by the Secretary General. Secretary General Ban emphasized the need for governments, academic institutions, civic groups, businesses and individuals to band together to create sustainable, systemic change impacting individual and community health and wellness.
Answering the call to action set forth by the UN Secretary General, APCESS is assuming a leadership role on the global stage committed to creating a shared culture of health and wellness. APCESS 2015 provides an ideal and strategic platform for scholars from various academic disciplines and institutions to interact, and share best practices, preventative strategies and research in health and sports performance. Most importantly, APCESS 2015 is committed to finding curative solutions within the framework of establishing a Global Exercise Science Network. 37 international renowned speakers representing 22 countries and regions world-wide have lent support to this first historical conference of APCESS to be held in India. To continue our fine tradition of supporting young scholars as Future Leaders, the Organizing Committee is pleased to sponsor the Future Leader/Volunteer (FLV) Program, consisting of 21selected graduate students and young scholars from 16 countries/regions. Special recognition must be given to Prof. Dr. G.L. Khanna and the valued contribution and recommendation of a team of international colleagues, for their individual and combined enthusiasm, insight and vision.
The two and a half day conference is formatted to interweave thought-provoking group sessions with ample time to personally interact with your colleagues from around the world. Sometimes the best ideas and solutions are the unexpected result of exchange in informal settings and dialogue. Our sincere hope is that you will maximize the provided opportunity to enjoy New Delhi, the “Capital City” of India, include the India Gate, Laxminarayan Temple, or take a short trip to the world famous The Taj Mahal in your itinerary, and savor delicious Indian cuisine. We are confident that you will feel that all are reflective of the warmth and hospitality of the Indian people and ancient India culture, defining and enriching your APCESS 2015 experience.
I look forward to personally greeting you in New Delhi in October, 2015.
